Size and weight: the guide nobody writes honestly

Every spec table lists a weight. Almost nobody explains it. Height is what sells a doll in photos; weight is what you live with every day after the crate arrives. This guide covers the part the industry undersells, because the most common regret we hear is not about face or body type. It is about kilograms.

What 30 kg actually feels like

A full-size silicone doll weighs 28 to 36 kg. That looks manageable on paper. Most people have hauled a 30 kg suitcase up a hotel staircase and survived.

But a suitcase cooperates. It has a rigid shell, a handle, wheels, and its weight stays where you put it. A doll has none of that. She is soft, articulated dead weight with no handholds, and her limbs shift as you lift. The load moves away from your body mid-carry, which is exactly what strains a lower back. Carrying a full-size doll is closer to carrying a sleeping adult than to carrying luggage.

The question that matters is not whether you can lift 30 kg once. It is whether you want to lift 30 kg from floor height, twice, every time you take her out and put her away. Few owners notice the weight in week one. Nearly all of them notice it by month three.

Height classes, and how weight scales

Weight does not scale with height in a straight line. A doll 10 percent taller is not 10 percent heavier, because volume grows in three dimensions. Body type matters just as much: fuller hips and a heavier chest add real kilograms at any height.

Compact: the 140 cm range

Compact builds come in well under the full-size band, often somewhere in the 15 to 25 kg range depending on body type. This is the class most people can move alone without planning the lift. If you live alone, live upstairs, or have any doubt about your back, start here.

Standard: 158 to 165 cm

This is where the 28 to 36 kg figure lives, and it is the most popular class for a reason: proportions look right and normal clothing sizes fit. It is also where buyers most often underestimate handling. Manageable, but a commitment.

Tall: 168 cm and up

Above 168 cm, weight climbs quickly, and some builds pass 40 kg. Tall dolls photograph beautifully. They are also genuinely hard for one person to move, and harder to store, since every case and wardrobe measurement grows with them. Buy tall with open eyes or not at all.

Weight-reduced builds, and what they trade away

Some factories engineer lighter bodies. Starpery is the best-known example: internal weight-reduction work that removes several kilograms without shrinking the doll's exterior dimensions. For anyone on the fence about handling, this is the most useful option on the order form.

It is not free of tradeoffs:

• It usually costs more than the standard build of the same doll.
• The body can feel slightly less dense in the hand. Some owners prefer the substantial feel of full weight, and a lighter build gives part of that up.
• Not every model or body type is offered with weight reduction, so it narrows your choices.

Our plain advice: if you hesitated even once while reading the sections above, take the weight-reduced option where it exists. Handling is a daily experience. Density is not.

Storage math: run the tape measure first

Three sets of numbers to check before ordering, not after.

• The shipping crate. Expect a crate roughly 20 to 30 cm longer than the doll, and around 40 cm wide and 30 cm deep. It arrives plain and unmarked with a neutral customs description, but it is still a large box that has to travel from your door to a room. Many owners keep the crate for future house moves; the empty crate then needs its own storage spot too.
• Flat storage. An under-bed case or storage box must be at least as long as the doll, with roughly 30 cm of width and clearance. Store her flat on a soft, even surface with no hard edges pressing into the material, and keep the spot out of direct sun.
• Hanging kits. A hook attached to the neck bolt turns a wardrobe into storage. You need vertical clearance of the doll's height plus about 15 cm for hardware. Hanging keeps limbs straight, avoids pressure points entirely, and a closed wardrobe blocks sunlight by default.

If none of these fit your home as it is today, solve that before you order, not during the 3 to 5 weeks of production.

Apartments, stairs, and honest self-assessment

A third-floor walk-up turns delivery day into a two-person job, or a slow solo one with rest stops. Hallway corners matter, because a 165 cm crate does not bend. And if you have any history of back trouble, decide now, calmly, in favor of a compact or weight-reduced build. A 20 kg doll you handle easily will always get more use than a 34 kg doll you dread lifting.

Choosing a height you will still be happy with in a year

Regret runs in one direction here. People write to say they wish they had ordered smaller and lighter. Nobody has ever written to say the doll is too easy to carry.

Photos push you the other way. Product photography favors tall builds and long lines, and you will be choosing from photos. That bias is worth naming. Choose by handling first and photos second, and if you are torn between two heights, take the shorter one.

Two order mechanics matter for this decision. Changes are free within 24 hours of placing your order, so you get one day to sleep on the height after committing. After that, the doll enters made-to-order production, and once produced she cannot be returned, which is standard for custom builds and explained on our returns page. You will receive factory photographs of the finished doll for approval before dispatch, but that step confirms quality and correctness. It cannot change her height. A pre-order checklist you can do tonight

Fifteen minutes with a tape measure prevents most of the regret this article describes.

• Measure the path: front door, hallway, corners, and any stairs to the room where she will live.
• Measure the storage spot: under-bed clearance or wardrobe height, against the doll height you are considering plus the crate or hardware margins above.
• Decide who helps on delivery day, or plan a solo route with rest points.
• Pick the cleaning spot. Care means warm water and mild soap, which means carrying her to a bathroom and back on a regular basis. That trip is part of the weight decision too.
• Write down the heaviest weight you would honestly be comfortable lifting daily, then filter by that number instead of by height.

Production takes 3 to 5 weeks and transit another 7 to 14 days tracked, so there is time to prepare storage while she is being made.
